The Internet and Children: Advantages and Disadvantages

The internet has many advantages and disadvantages towards society and people, especially children. This article is about the disadvantages and advantages towards children from the internet. The article examines how children’s lives are being influenced by the internet positively and negatively. This article is about how people are forgetting how to communicate with one another because the internet  is taking over children’s ability to communicate with one another. How children use the Internet and how a child uses the Internet significantly impact the Internet’s influence on him or her. A child’s personality and developmental has a big impact on how  the Internet’s influence on him or her. Also an awareness of the hazards inherent to children’s Internet use is essential for all who work with children so they can apply preventive measures and help keep children safe. This source seems acceptable to me because it on the UNE website, under library services. I went on quick search and typed in advantages and disadvantages of the internet. I found a source called, “The Internet and Children: Advantages and Disadvantages”, which sounded interesting to me so I decided to pick it for a source. This source is acceptable because it’s an article from a book. It has an author and is a reliable source that I found in the library source. When I brainstorm I will connect how the internet is influence children in a positive and negative way. Also I will argue that children have advantages and disadvantages. I can explained a disadvantage of cell phones and social media is that they give children a false sense of security. Kids of all ages thrive on social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. However, these apps also draw kids away from reality and into a world where they may feel they can say or do anything without consequences. The use of cellphones and social media is also an advantage to children. While cell phones can be a nuisance in the classroom, they can also be time savers. For instance, it’s much easier and faster to have students use their phones to look up information and vocabulary words online, rather than in a book and/or a dictionary, especially in the middle of a teachable moment. Allowing students to use social media tools helps you meet kids where they are and provides them with a way to express their ideas through a medium that is comfortable and accessible for any device with an Internet connection. I will try to find connections from Wasek’s “My Crowd Experiment,” and Resek or Anderson. I think my essay topic best relates to Anderson and Resek because they both talked about how technology such as the internet affects the minds of people negatively. I think I can provide these two sources and relate it with childrens.
