Questions for Bill Wasik’s “My Crowd Experiment: The Mob Project” 10/30/17

1. Bill Wasik pg. 474-475

2. The internet extends Bill Wasik and what he says about the internet is that the internet doesn’t change culture. Also it creates different cultures online that internet communities provide niche interests, which members don’t feel like members of those cultures online. Bill Wasik created Flash mobs, which the purpose was to create an internet meme where people would simply be invited to do nothing to become part of the next big thing. Wasik suggested that email would be the easier way to get people’s attention. Emailing was straightforward and Wasik thought this was the only way that people would see Wasik beliefs and ideas about, “The Mob Project”. This shows that the internet is very powerful because you can do anything to get people’s attention like Bill Wasik did by emailing everyone about, “The Mob Project”. “The Mob Project” demonstrated culture in two ways. One way is that using technology as a way of communication. Another way is having people realized that there are problems in New York because of the Mob. Viral culture is changing how we learn, share, create, and interact according to Bill Wasik. The internet and technology changes the way how society works these days, especially how the internet draws attention to people.

3. I argue that Bill Wasik pursues purpose and meaning. He argues purpose in his essay by to creating an internet meme where people would simply be invited to do nothing to become part of the next big thing. I think Bill Wasik does accomplish what he was set to do. First, he got people’s attention about, “The Mob Project” because he draws people attention. He started emailing people and then its started going viral because blogs were being created then the news started covering about The Mob Project. What is it that would make people come to the flash mob? Well, it would be the fact that if it went off as planned, lots of other people would be coming. The desire to not be left out was part of what would grow it. Emailing people was the right way to get people’s attention because it was straightforward to people. Therefore, I think Bill Wasik accomplished what he did because of one important thing, which was that he drew a lot of attention towards people in New York and especially around the world. Getting attention from The Mob Project made Bill Wasik popular and successful because he became writing other magazines, papers, and books. He was the first writer to have his work go viral around the world digitally. He pursue people that the mobs have gone violently in the last decade. My opinion about “The Mob Project” is that  Mr. Wasik’s intention was starting the trend of flash mobs he has begun a new meaning  for criminal activity around the world. I do not know what this means for Mr. Wasik, but unfortunately, many random and innocent people have already been victims of random acts of violence in mobs everywhere globally. Therefore, I do think Bill Wasik has accomplished what he wanted to do by getting people’s attention, but I think other people looked at “The Mob Project” negatively in a different perspective.
